Welcome to Dupont Art Club![]() |
| Who we are Dupont Art Club was formed in 1981 in the studios of The Old Market Arts Centre in Brighton (now the Old Market). The founders wanted a distinctive name for the club. From a window they could see a fading sign for the Dupont Riding Stables, Dupont Art Club was born. Dupont now operates in Hove and we welcome everyone from absolute beginners to professional artists. We are essentially a club where you can have as much or as little help as you would like. We have a tutor at each session, not always the same person, this provides variety and different approaches to your art work. Our studio is large, bright and well equiped with easels, trestles and drawing boards. We meet at the Adult Education Centre, Connaught Road in Hove. (Click here for a map). There are three sessions each week, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning and Thursday afternoons. Members work in oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolour .pen and ink, pencil and charcoal, in fact any medium you wish. We always have available for sale a selection of paper. We are a not for profit organisation run by and for members. We are a member of Brighton and Hove Arts Council. Our Current Programme Wednesday afternoons from 1.30 to 4.00pm Every other Wednesday we have a structured class, for example how to paint reflections in water, perspective and so on. Alternate Wednesdays we have an open session with a still life or you can simply work on your own with help from the Tutor. Thursday morning from 9.30 to 12.00 and afternoons 1.30 to 4.00pm There are two sections each Thursday, Life class and Still Life. We always have a model for the day. From time to time we have an all day life pose for those who attend all day and want to have time to complete their picture. Alternate Thursdays we have a life pose in the morning and costume or portrait in the afternoon. Those members who don't wish to join the Life class have still life or work on their own. From time to time our tutors organise workshops on specific art subjects. This can cover colour mixing, painting backgrounds, how to draw parts of a body. Holiday Breaks We are not part of The College we simply hire the space. So we are able to operate all the year round apart from public holidays, the Christmas and Easter breaks, and a one-week holiday in the summer. |
